I'm sure your in-box is flooded right now with word of the sad news today. As the only person I know who liked Evel as much (or more) than I did/do I wanted to write to you and offer you my condolences.
I had a dream last night about him, actually. It was one of those fever-induced fog-like dreams that fade quickly and I really don't remember much about it, but I woke up this morning and all day have been thinking about how awesome that picture of him and Kanye West is. And how much I respect Evel's kick ass approach to life. And how much I wanted to go to Butte and ride in that fucking parade with him, cos as good as he looked in that picture, I'm sure time was short, and I had to go next year for sure!
Then I Twittered my favorite quote of his (http://twitter.com/jamessime/statuses/458542892), and then a couple hours later I got the sad news from a dear friend of mine. It was a really, really surreal experience.
So, anyway... now I'm writing to you. Because you wrote the greatest Evel Knievel book ever written. Because you love the same crazy 70's daredevil stuntjumpers like the Human Fly and Mister Knievel like I do. Because I knew you could understand what it feels like to not get to go to Evel Knievel Days and ride in that parade with him. Because I wanted to share my dream story with you.
And because Evel called you Steve Man-Dick.
And because I knew you'd be sad to hear he was gone too.

we used to be miserable together making copies, binding, clearing paper jams, etc. at the kinkos in portland. i thought of you yesterday when i read about evels passing. i'm currently, due to an illness to my father in law, living in st. petersburg where evel spent his final days.
i've still got a copy of heinous and monorail. glad to see your doing well.
the last time i ran into Gabe, i was working on an awful movie called "the hunted" and he and his wife somehow ended up getting their car stuck in one of the scenes we were filming.

are these psople nuts?? "we hardly knew ye"?? that says it all, Steve did not know Evel at all! he just gathered info and put out a second rate book. and now he is trashing Evel's memory.
